How to Home Forecast: Weather Stations

Home weather stations are devices that measure, monitor, and record weather and environmental data in your specific/local area. Weather Stations consist of an outdoor sensor station and an indoor console that receives and displays the weather data on the console screen, so you can monitor outdoor temperatures from the warmth and comfort of your home. Home weather stations were designed with specific monitoring in mind. Measuring weather data exclusive to your location. Our weather stations collect temperature, humidity, wind speed, and air pressure data. A home weather station is a complete all-rounder for local environmental monitoring.

Getting started:

There are various factors to consider when purchasing and setting up your weather station, these are:

Choosing the ideal location to mount your weather station can have a significant impact on some of the parameters the station measures therefore you must consider the following:

  • Air temperature is typically measured 1 to 1.5 metres above the ground, for the most accurate results ensure your weather station is at least twice the distance any nearby tall object height, for example, your station must be at least 20ft away from a 10ft tree.
  • Rainfall is normally measured around 30cm above ground level.
  • Optimal height for wind speed measurements is around 10 metres above the ground.

Setting up:

Once you have chosen your desired location for mounting, the base station must be placed on a flat surface or a wall, you can do this by using the hanging holes on the back of the units. Side note: Our Temperature and Humidity Station  does not possess wall-hanging accessories.

Remote sensors should be mounted onto a flat, horizontal surface in an open area away from obstructions that could affect the accuracy of measurement. Side note: For our Wireless Weather Station, ensure that the wind-cups can rotate freely before fixing the unit.

How to record:

The digital display of our weather stations shows accurate recordings of the current environmental conditions of your surroundings including Indoor and outdoor temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed, rainfall, and of course the current time of your location, these are all available to view and record in real-time. Side note: Our weather station, includes a feature allowing you to access previous weather data recorded over the last 24 hours.

Maintenance:

The stations are all designed with dependability in mind and unlike our weather dials, they require additional attention once set up, these include:

  • Occasional checks of the sensors, ensuring they are clean and removed of any debris present.
  • Our stations require battery power, which usually lasts around 12 months.
  • Our stations arrive with a product manual, which has all the setup information you’ll need, troubleshooting, advice on maintenance, and information on how to make the most out of your station's features.
